A growing awareness of the number of people in our community without access to affordable health care moved me to start volunteering at the LAFC. After retiring from more than 30 years in the medical field, I started volunteering at the LAFC in 2008. I saw that the organization is made up of a very dedicated group of individuals who selflessly give of their time to provide medical care to those in need. I am proud to be part of an organization that believes that quality care, delivered compassionately, to all in need is an important service that should be available in our community. |

I joined the Lake Area Free Clinic in 2002. I was asked to be a part of the board to assist with clinical operations and establish a place where nurse practitioners could practice and serve their community. Since that time, I have served on the board and have led various committees' that have focused on strategic planning and clinical excellence. During my tenure I have been very proud to serve with a great group of individuals who are caring and compassionate.

I had heard that the Free Clinic was in need of a treasurer through a colleague. I am excited to volunteer my time to a great organization that helps my local community. I had previously begun volunteering in pre-hospital care as an EMT in my local community. I began as the treasurer for the Lake Area Free Clinic at the beginning of 2010.

I joined the Lake Area Free Clinic Board of Directors because I wanted to contribute to this important service -- providing healthcare to people who have no insurance, and cannot afford to purchase it. It has been exciting to participate in the planning and implementation of strategies to provide health care that is excellent and that the clinic can afford to provide. It is very rewarding to work at the clinic, realizing we exist in an area that has supported the clinic--financially and with the many volunteers required to make this venture a success.

Dr. Susan RusslerThe Free Clinic gives me the opportunity to act on my belief that, if each of us give of our time and talent to help others, the world will be a better place for everyone. As a long-time volunteer, I have always found that the joy and satisfaction resulting from contributing to an organization such as the Free Clinic is an energizing force that keeps me engaged and involved.

I was pleased to be asked to be involved in the early stages of the formation of the Lake Area Free Clinic. As the charter members of the Board of Directors worked through the planning and implementation process to provide much needed services in the Lake Country area, they determined that they wanted to provide medications to the Lake Area Free Clinic clients. Initially, I was brought into the organization in an advisory role, but after a few meetings, the committee members suggested that I should join the Board as a regular member. I have been happy that I accepted the role and take great pleasure in being associated with such a dedicated group of individuals.

Sandra StearnsAs a community member and Associate Dean of Nursing at WCTC I am honored to serve on the board. The LAFC serves the needs of the uninsured with dignity and quality. Most clients never thought that they would be in this position; out of work and no insurance. WCTC also uses the clinic as a learning opportunity for nursing students. They all come away from the experience with a better understanding of compassion and the need for community service once they graduate. Lake Country is lucky to have such a wonderful clinic available for those in need!

Bio to come.
When asked why he joined the Lake Area Free Clinic Board: To help others who do not have access to healthcare... something (healthcare) that many of us take for granted.
In 2008, I was asked by the clinic to help bring new ideas and collaborate with a team of community leaders to take the LAFC to the next level. It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of such a loving and caring organization where PEOPLE come before everything else. I work with the marketing and PR team to keep the clinic in the community and increase the awareness of what LAFC is all about.
Peter Geiss, MD majored in biochemistry at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME and received a BA Degree in 1974. Dr. Geiss attended medical school and completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 1981 at St. Louis University. He was an Assistant Professor of medicine at St. Louis University prior to entering private practice and joining the staff of Waukeksha Memorial Hospital. In 1993 Dr. Geiss became the Medical Director of Waukesha Health Care, and in 2005 Dr. Geiss was made Chief Medical Officer of ProHealth Care, an integrated delivery system with two acute care hospitals, home health services long term care facilities, assisted living and senior residential housing, home hospice and Angels' Grace inpatient hospice, Westwood Health and Fitness Center and the ProHealth Care Medical Clinics. Dr. Geiss is a member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Physician Executives, Wisconsin Medical Society and Waukesha Medical Society. He also serves as Treasurer on the Waukesha Memorial Foundation Board, is Chairman-elect of the LindenGrove Board of Directors, and serves on the Waukesha Health Care Board of Directors.
I became a member of the Board of the clinic in 2008 because I clearly see the need for health services to the underserved in our community. My congregation has many members who are involved in the work of the clinic in addition to supporting its mission through our financial support. As a result I felt called to be a part of helping this ministry of our community be successful.
I joined the Lake Area Free Clinic because I wanted to help provides services to others. I knew I could learn and well as use my skills to assist others. Working in an organization that is in place to provide services for those less fortunate is a privilege.

I feel very strongly that people without health insurance should have a place they can go to when they need medical assistance. It is a privilege to be on a board where all the members are so dedicated and supportive of LAFC's mission

My husband and I have been involved with the Lake Area Free Clinic since 2002 when we were recruited to join the board of directors to help the Clinic with its mission to become more visible in the community. Since that time, we have seen firsthand the result of many people coming together to take care of those in our community who desperately need the wonderful services the Clinic provides. The passion on the part of our volunteers, staff and those that support us is truly inspiring. We are proud to be a part of an organization that offers such a high level of compassionate, quality care.
The growing problem of the uninsured in our community moved us to get involved with the Lake Area Free Clinic. If we don't help those of us among us who need care, the result will ultimately affect all of us. Our experience with the Clinic has convinced us even more of the need for its services. The Clinic provides high quality health care services for people who would otherwise go without and we are so glad that the community has stepped up to embrace its mission.
As a community advocate I am aware of the needs of the City. The Free Clinic is a vital ingredient in making Oconomowoc a welcoming home to everyone who lives here. The Clinic has grown with the needs of the population and our move to a larger location is a long awaited necessity. We are grateful to all who contribute to this much needed service in our community.
