In late 2002 we were invited to an LAFC board meeting as guests. Having opened its doors the summer before, the Clinic was looking for community partners interested in becoming involved in leading, supporting and guiding the organization as it was experiencing rapid growth. Both of us had spent most of our professional lives in the health care/insurance industry. We wholeheartedly embraced the Clinic’s mission, understanding the very real need for access to care and the effects on all of us when it is in limited supply.
We joined the LAFC board in 2003 (spending 19 years on the board through 2023) and agreed to co-chair the Public Relations and Marketing Committee (which we continue to do to this day). The care delivered at the Clinic is compassionate and of the highest quality. Our involvement has enriched and transformed our lives, much as it has for its patients and legion of dedicated volunteers. We cherish the relationships we have made through the Clinic and are so grateful for the support the community has shown for its continued existence. One day, we hope there is no need for a free clinic, but until that day, we are blessed to have it as a vital community resource.
